Facebook Changes News Feed Algorithm Update

December 28, 2013 / News /

Facebook recently made significant changes to their News Feed algorithm, dramatically altering what users see on their News Feed as determined by Facebook’s private ranking system. The purpose behind Facebook’s updated News Feed ranking algorithm is to show users more relevant content (content that others have read, liked, and commented on) and “high quality” content published by authoritative websites. The ultimate goal is to help the average user find more content that he/she may find interesting.

The update to News Feed ranking recognizes that people want to see more relevant news and what their friends have to say about it. According to Facebook.

Steps to take to get your posts seen by your fans:

1. Comments seem to be king right now. Likes and shares are always important to show interest but what FB is using as an indicator of what is actually relevant content are the number of comments a post generates.

2. Create a how to follow image or illustrating how to ensure that posts from a page you follow show up in your news feed.

3. Share links that are generated from authoritative news sites. Re-purpose the link and make it relevant to your brand or posting.

**Bonus idea** We have been toying around with generating press releases about specific content for a business and then once an authoritative news source picks it up you can then share that link on your page. Since its a news link from an authority it will stick. Follow our blog and stay tuned for how this strategy works out!
